To the San Francisco Chronicle, KRON-TV, BayTV, and KQED Radio, which won the top prize in the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s annual Transportation Awards for their “Commuter Chronicles” series and the “Unlock the Gridlock” public forums on transportation.
To KPLU-FM, Tacoma, WA, which received a first-place award in the documentary/series category for its reports on “bellwether communities,” part of the 1996 “Front Porch Forum’s” election coverage. The award, recognizing work in the country’s largest radio markets, was given by the Public Radio News Directors Inc.
