The Pew Charitable Trusts are a group of seven individual charitable trusts established between 1948 and 1979 by two sons and two daughters of Joseph N. Pew, founder of the Sun Oil Co., and his wife Mary Anderson Pew. The Trusts, based in Philadelphia, make strategic investments to help organizations and citizens develop practical solutions to difficult problems in the areas of culture, education, environment, health and human services, public policy and religion.
Pew Center on the States – Stateline.org
Stateline.org was founded in order to help journalists, policy makers and engaged citizens become better informed about innovative public policies. Devolution and growing political gridlock in Washington have made the states more than ever the laboratories of democracy. But the changing economics of the news business have had a severe impact on the size of the press corps covering state capitals. Television news has virtually abandoned the capitals and newspapers have, in many cases, down sized their state house bureaus or closed them.
The Pew Research Center for The People and The Press
An independent opinion research group that studies attitudes toward press, politics and public policy issues. The Pew Research Center is best known for regular national surveys that measure public attentiveness to major news stories, and for their polling that charts trends in values and fundamental political and social attitudes.

The Project for Excellence in Journalism is an initiative by journalists from all media to clarify and raise the standards of American journalism.
Pew Internet and American Life Project
The Pew Internet & American Life Project creates and funds original, academic-quality research that explores the impact of the Internet on children, families, communities, the work place, schools, health care and civic/political life.
The Alliance for Better Campaigns
The Alliance for Better Campaigns is a new public interest group that seeks to improve elections by promoting high standards for candidate accountability, media coverage and citizen engagement.

Radio and Television News Directors Association
The Radio and Television News Directors Association is the only organization in the world dedicated exclusively to serving the electronic journalism profession. RTNDA represents local and network news executives in broadcasting, cable and other electronic media in more than 30 countries.
The Poynter Institute is a school dedicated to teaching and inspiring journalists and media leaders. It promotes excellence and integrity in the practice of craft and in the practical leadership of successful businesses. It stands for a journalism that informs citizens and enlightens public discourse. It carries forward Nelson Poynter’s belief in the value of independent journalism.
The American Press Institute is the oldest and largest center devoted solely to training and professional development for the news industry and journalism educators.
Pew International Journalism Project
The Pew Fellowships in International Journalism are designed to educate U.S. journalists in international issues and to increase and improve the coverage of international topics in the U.S. media.
The Kettering Foundation engages in research and activities to understand the way bodies politic function or fail to function. Kettering treats politics in its broadest sense — politics as a dimension of everyday life rather than as only what officeholders and governments do. The research is done for practical purposes; it goes into crafting “tools” (study guides, community workbooks, and other exercises) that help a public act responsibly and effectively on its problems.

NABRE is a network of community-based organizations working across the country to bridge racial and ethnic divisions. The Civic Practices Network is a collaborative and nonpartisan project bringing together a diverse array of organizations and perspectives within the new citizenship movement. CPN shares a commitment to bring practical methods for public problem solving into every community and institutional setting in America.
The Penn National Commission on Society, Culture, and Community
The Penn National Commission seeks to foster the “reasoned and reasonable” discourse essential to the social, political, cultural, and community life of a democracy.
